Shawne Merriman nicknamed "Lights Out", is an American former professional football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Maryland Terrapins and was selected 12th overall by the San Diego Chargers in the 2005 NFL Draft. He earned NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in his first season and recorded 39+1/2 quarterback sacks in his first three seasons, also making three Pro Bowls as well as two All-Pro selections.
