Crown Holiday 2020 Auction

Offered is a 1930 Earle Combs signed New York Yankees payroll check, which also features the signatures of Yankees business manager Ed Barrow and owner Jacob Ruppert. The Hall of Fame Yankees centerfielder has signed his name “Earle B. Combs” in black pen on the endorsement line on the back of the white paper check dated August 5, 1930 in the amount of $1,239.52. The front of the check from the account of “The American League Base Ball Club of New York, Inc.” at Manufacturer’s Trust features black type and red and white stamped text. Barrow has signed his name at the front left margin of the check in black pen, while Ruppert has signed his name in black pen in the front lower right corner. Combs played his entire career for the Yankees (1924–1935), including nine World Series Championship squads. He batted leadoff on the Yankees' fabled 1927 team, Murderers’ Row. He is one of six players on that team who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame; the other five are Waite Hoyt, Herb Pennock, Tony Lazzeri, Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth.
