Stengel was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1890 and by 1910 he had began his professional baseball career that would span over half a century. Stengel reached the major leagues late in 1912 as an outfielder for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Between 1912 and 1925 Casey completed stints as an outfielder with Brooklyn, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York Giants and Boston Bees. This unique lot features both the autograph and handwritten inscriptions provided by Stengel outlining his playing days career which he completed prior to his managerial years; most famously managing the New York Yankees and such players as Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra and several other Yankee stars of the 1940’s through 1960.
