Monty Montgomery spent 2 seasons in the majors both of which were with the Kansas City Royals (1971-72). Montgomery appeared in 12 games over those 2 seasons posting a 6-3 record with a 2.78 ERA. This flannel top was worn by Montgomery during his September call up in 1971. Montgomery won all three of his appearances during that 1971 season and posted an impressive 2.11 ERA. The jersey is not tagged for 1971 but that is not unusual for a late season call-up. The jersey is all original and the reverse bares the team retired number 20. The pants in this lot are tagged for use in 1971 by former Royals pitcher Ted Abernathy. Abernathy was a premier closer during his career and was twice (1965 & 1967) named Sporting News Fireman of the year. Abernathy recorded 23 Saves while sporting a 2.56 ERA during his 1971 season with the Royals. Both the jersey and pants show light wear. Tough to find all original flannel jersey ensemble from the Kansas City Royals! Loa from jersey expert Dave Miedema accompanies this lot. This lot contains a reserve
