This lot features a gorgeous autograph signature of Ty Cobb who on April 6, 1954, when requested in writing to provide his opinion of “Baseball’s Greatest Outfielder of All-Time” wrote in his classic green ink Jackson, Speaker, Ruth Ty Cobb’s selection 4/6/54. Ty Cobb’s response to the question obviously went beyond the original request of only naming one player. Cobb answered the question by selecting his opinion of greatest left fielder (Shoeless Joe Jackson), centerfielder (Tris Speaker), and right fielder (Babe Ruth). This magnificent piece of history was originally obtained by an autograph collector who began collecting in the 1940’s until 1994. The presented autograph page was part of an autograph book he would carry with him during his travels as a sports writer and record producer.
