Wow!! That's the best way to start the description for this stunning fresh to the hobby Lou Gehrig game used bat. This fantastic bat was used by Gehrig during the 1926 season and since it is un-cracked perhaps into the 1927 season. The bat shows excellent use with a plethora of ball marks on the right barrel. H&B factory records indicate that Gehrig ordered this bat either on 06/25/1926 or 07/12/1926. The 1926 season was a breakout season for Gehrig as he appeared in 155 games for the New York Yankees posting a .313 batting average along with 16 home runs, 47 doubles, 112 RBI's and an A.L. leading 20 triples. Gehrig would also play in his first World Series in 1926 as the Yankees squared off against the St. Louis Cardinals. Gehrig would bat an impressive .348 with 4 RBI's in the 7 game series but nonetheless the Yankees were still defeated 3 games to 4. Gehrig bats are a true hobby rarity with less than 20 examples known to exist. This particular bat was originally purchased over 40 years ago at an estate sale of a former Yankee Scout. It has remained in the purchasers personal collection until now. The bat is a true beauty and has been graded a PSA 8. Great chance to pick up an early career year specific gamer from one of baseball's truly legendary players!!! This lot contains a reserve. Because of the rarity of this item please contact Crown Sports to be approved for bidding on this lot.
